After four disappointing seasons in a row, the Mets hired a new GM Sandy Alderson and a new manager Terry Collins. The Mets will be riding an inexperienced pitching staff led by Mike Pelfrey, Jon Niese and knuckleballer R.A. Dickey along with injury-prone Chris Young and Chris Capuano until their ace Johan Santana returns from surgery in July. Their offense will be able to produce runs if right fielder Carlos Beltran, shortstop Jose Reyes and Left Fielder Jason Bay (who will start the season on the DL) can stay healthy. They have a good core of young hitters led by first baseman Ike Davis and catcher Josh Thole. If healthy, this team will be able to compete.
